Hi, I’m Elizabeth Nelson, LCSW, Phd
I am passionate about working with individuals navigating stress, anxiety, perfectionism, overwhelm, and burnout.
I focus on building a deep understanding of a person’s unique needs, experiences, and goals. I don’t believe anything is inherently “wrong” with my clients. Clients learn ways to survive difficult experiences and environments. Sometimes those survival skills stop working when life changes and a different approach is needed.
It’s hard to let go of ways of acting that were protective in the past. Bringing old skills into new environments can cause exhaustion, confusion, and frustration. I help my clients identify what they are ready to leave in the past and learn how to find peace and joy in the present.
I use a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, feminist theory, critical theory, and person-centered approaches to understand and help guide my clients on their healing journey.
I believe it’s impossible to separate mental and physical wellness from our environment. Systemic inequality and discrimination causes stress, anxiety, addiction, depression, and trauma. While individual therapy alone doesn’t change larger systems, it can provide important support while working to change our world to support everyone. I welcome clients of all identities and backgrounds and strive to create a therapeutic environment where no topic is off limits.
