College lecture hall academic stress

Frustrated with navigating the challenges of an academic environment? Universities and colleges don’t function like the rest of the world. The politics, pressures during the academic semesters, and expected work in addition to instruction create unique stressors in these spaces.

Creating and maintaining boundaries between work and personal life can be difficult. When an environment is “mission-driven” it can feel like code for “burn yourself out and don’t ask questions.” In addition, many institutions of higher learning are being impacted by federal pressures and funding cuts that create uncomfortable, or sometimes unfair, choices.

You got into academia to continue learning and share your love of learning with others - so why are you starting to question your decision?

Maybe you’ve been trying to cope by losing yourself in distractions - alcohol, THC, social media, or any other number of activities that help you stop feeling or thinking for a brief time. Unfortunately, once the substance or activity stops, the negative and doubting thoughts return. You are not alone in feeling anxiety, depression, overwhelm, or burnout.

I work with a variety of people involved in academic environments - professors, instructors, graduate students, or undergraduate students. I understand the complex nature of academic hierarchies and how difficult they can be to navigate without losing your core self. Together we can find ways for you to reclaim a life outside of campus without feeling guilt. You can start to appreciate the benefits of being in academia without being overwhelmed by the pressures and expectations.
